This is a very popular technology that creates a suede surface. Sometimes the word flocking or flocking is used.
The technology is used for two reasons. The first is to create a decorative surface that is very pleasant to the touch. The second reason is the technical use of flocking. The textile fabric applied in this way has a great function as a shock absorber, thermal insulator or gap spacer.
It is very often used in the automotive industry, for example for various compartments and armrests.
What is flocking and how does it work?
Flocking is a technology that can create a suede surface on almost any product. The advantage is that this delicate velvety surface can be achieved both on large surfaces and on complex shapes. The principle consists in applying a layer of glue to the surface of the product and then “shooting” the individual hairs with a very high voltage – typically 70kV. The high voltage causes the hairs to stand next to each other perpendicular to the surface of the product, creating a velvety surface.
Materials that can be flocked
It is possible to cover virtually any material with flock. We commonly flock all types of plastics, metals, wood, paper, glass, ceramics, soft and hard foams, carpets and textiles.
Flocked surface durability
We always choose the resistance according to the type of application and it is determined by the adhesive used. When processing the calculation, the level of required resistance is always consulted and the adhesive that suits the given application is chosen accordingly.
